Sept. 1995. Whitney is the highest peak in the lower 48 states, at 14,494 ft. The trail has a 6134 ft. elvation gain
and it's a real challenge to do the 21 miles roundtrip in one day. This time I backpacked in, then did the summit.
Four others times though, I did make it as a day hike.
